Suggestions for improvements

I find ML very helpful. However, I think it could be improved with these changes:

1. permit reducing the number of boxes, i.e. to three, per the original Leitner method. It's not clear that there is any advantage to having 10 boxes.

2. The chapter and boxes organization is good, but it would be helpful to have a third, independent grouping option. I would use this for synonyms in the language I am learning since there are some sticky problems with these that would benefit from separate rehearsal.

3. permit font size changes to the card maintenance function.

Hello,

thanks for your input:

@1) You can already simulate that by setting the size for e.g. Box 3 to a higher value than the total number of cards in the module.

@2) We are already thinking about a "tagging system" so you may will see such a feature in the future.

@3) What exactly do you mean by that?

Although it's a year since I posed this question, I am still using MemoryLifter and still concerned with the issue.
1. It is not possible to simulate a 3-card Leitner system by setting the size of box 3 to a size larger than the deck. ML will still prompt me for the cards in box 3 and promote them to box 4 if correct. I cannot set the size of box 4 in this case to zero. If I could set the size of a box to zero that would solve the problem.

I don't understand why such features as the number of boxes are hard-coded in the program and why you don't give the user control over it. Especially since the expansion of Leitner's three boxes to ten seems not to have any basis in experimental data.

2. Have you implemented additional dimensions in the db? I use the lessons categories to match the chapters in my book. But I would like also to categorize the vocabulary words in additional dimensions, not partitions.

4. I am learning Thai vocabulary. The Thai font is small and not adjustable. On the maintenance screen the font shows as too small to read comfortably.

Hi,

sorry for the late response, but I just saw your answer:
@1) I think then your lower boxes are to big and "not full", because then the "oldest" question will be asked.
By the way, the original leitner system had a 5 box system (just checked the book) and is open to "n-boxes" and we set it to 10, because it is then also usable for large modules which many cards which can be used over a long time period.

@2) The database already has some kind of "tags", but its not implemented yet to be used to assign them to cards and sort/filter cards in the front end.

@3) I'm sorry, but that is not possible at the moment. You can change the font size in the learning window/mode, but the maintain dialog has a few flaws in that area.

I created a feature request at http://memorylifter.codeplex.com/workitem/503 for the taging feature.
If you are (still) interested in such a feature, please vote for it there.
